Terri Short Bio

From Terri's earliest years she remembers loving to listen to her grandparent's collection of country classic record, such as Loretta Lynn and Pasty Cline. By the age of nine, she had taught herself how to play her mother's guitar.

Terri never had a question in her mind about what she wanted to be when she grew up: a country star. Most of the signatures in her senior high school year book at Crescent Heights High School in Alberta, Canada, said "good luck in Nashville." Her classmates voted her most likely to succeed.

Terri arrived in Nashville in 1987, right after high school. She struggled for seven years to get a record deal. To support herself she sold boots, waited tables, and played for tips in the beer garden at Music Row's Gilley's. In May of 1984 she finally got a break. Mercury Records VP of A&R Keith Stegall brought Terri to a live audition for the label's President, Luke Lewis. They signed her the next day.

At the age of 29, Terri can already claim ownership to three top five singles, a gold album, an Academy of Country Music Nomination for Best New Female Artist, a TNN Music CITY News Award for Female Star of Tomorrow, an appearance on the Grand Ole Opry, and gigs opening for George Strait and Brooks & Dunn. Terri Clark has finally arrived.
